Simbiosis



Today we observe a new, visually aggresive form of creation, where the main function of design is not to encourage critical observation or proper regard, but to compete for short-lived attention using familiar forms with little variation. 
A problem with this new direction is design without limit, design without control, often culminating in habitual themes or motifs with little context, function or beauty. This work is a resistance to the current trajectory, reaffirming that which is discussed in the thesis The Gutenberg Parenthesis Research Forum (2017), that there is an argument to be made for taking a step back - to an era of more thoughtful, purer design, to see how we can continue designing for the future whilst looking a little towards the past.
For this I visited South Asia, where I managed to connect with the essence of design I admire most - techniques, shapes, colors and symbolism, strongly embedded in culture, considerately chosen and more consistent through time. 
The goal is to find the ideal balance between two methods of work and extremely different cultures. Defying the limits and preconceived ideas of both societies. Examining how their cultures and design systems can benefit and influence each other. A fusion based on the transformation of traditions following visual norms.
This symbiosis between cultures is projected in multiple pieces, the whole set is presented in a box of dimensions: length, width and height; 76 x 12 x 8 cm. This includes a book inspired by the design and form of the ancient manuscripts of the doctrine, with a juxtaposition of vertical and horizontal readings in an elongated format of 38 x 12 cm.
Also included are four graphical representations created by fusing mystical geometrical figures of the Buddhist religion and the famous tiles of Barcelona, these blocks of wood are used to print on cotton fabrics (also included) in a traditional manner.
